Nomads World and Base Backpackers Management Conference
A team event to break teams out of their National Management Conference and inject some entertainment. Also to introduce team members from a new company/brand recently acquired.
Our Legacy Client
All those years ago when we first opened our doors and starting offering events our very first ever client was Nomads World! Since then we have happily organised 12 events in 4 different locations for them – every time building on our relationship getting to know their team and their fun, competitive and passionate culture. Needless to say Nomads hold a very special place in our history.
We were contacted again by the fantastic Renee, with some super-exciting but also confidential (at the time) news that they had just acquired a major competitor’s, Base Backpacker’s properties. For their industry, this was some of the biggest news in years and one of the biggest moves in the Australian Backpacker Industry ever.
To celebrate and start strategizing Nomads were bringing all their managers and head office crew in from over Australia and New Zealand together with their counterparts from the newly acquired base to meet in Byron Bay for a 3-day conference.
Our mission was to create a unique Amazing Race celebrating everything Byron Bay but with a real team focus encouraging interaction and unity and finish the day with some Game Show style challenges back with everyone together to allow everyone’s personalities to shine. Naturally, we jumped at the opportunity to, as a team, head up to Byron Bay for such a cool event. Our accommodation was clearly sorted for us… thanks Renee!
Planning the event!
Planning the Amazing Race wasn’t without it’s issues – Byron is practically a one-main-street town and finding the best locations to place our checkpoints was a challenge. What wasn’t hard was finding awesome, interesting, public interaction challenges! Knowing how far to take it with this edgy, cool company was the question!
The Byron Bay Amazing Race
Participants faced Giant Slingshots in the parks, Sand Castle Competitions on the beach, hippy flower power challenges, line-dancing competitions and definitely felt the love from plenty of passer-by’s and the Byron residents.
Participants were offered the use of Bikes from strangers, had locals help out in our Karaoke challenge and were even offered other things they fortunately didn’t use – it definitely was a Byron experience.
In the end, all teams made their way back to their bar – actually their bar – they own it so getting a reservation wasn’t hard. We checked them in for all the Amazing Race challenges teams had to do but that wasn’t where the fun ended.
Minute to Win It Games
We brought everyone together then for a little extra fun to give everyone a chance to let their hair down and have a good laugh and allow your real personality to shine. We played a collection of some of our favourite Minute To Win It and Game Show events. The choice of games we’re definitely over the top, the kind that makes you laugh doing it and, in turn, makes everyone laugh along.
Our clients let their hair down!
One of Nomads practically famous managers (Peggy from Nomads Arts Factory in Byron) was in fine form dancing her way to victory with simply the biggest smile on her face, semi-hiding her deep competitiveness and eagerness to win! Personality-plus was the order for the day – clearly this type of industry attracts fun-loving, charismatic people with no inhibitions. The day ended with cheers, laughter and beers – two companies becoming one.
It was a success!
We high-fived an event well done, went for dinner with their crew at the most amazing restaurant in Byron and even squeezed in a sunbake and swim the next day before our flight home. Yes we have a pretty amazing job…
